Trust The Process

How it started vs How it’s going…

Some progress on some things I planted this year. Actually, when it came to the hanging flowers, the white flowers on the left survived from last year, and I added the red flowers and smaller white ones to fill out the pot. I tried to pick things with different textures and sizes and I think it worked well. They were looking a little bit sad to begin with, but like most things: a little time, a little effort, and a little sunshine reaped great benefits. I also potted my oregano plant, which also survived from last year, with a newer oregano plant (different variety) and they have filled out nicely. I also have two varieties of thyme, chives, and unfortunately some dill which is currently being attacked by some sort of insect. I think I may have to throw it out.

I had intended on growing tomatoes this year. Someone told me that if you’re in a top restaurant and you really enjoy the tomatoes they’re serving then you can keep the seeds, dry them out and grow them yourself. Good idea! So I had some particularly delicious tomatoes earlier in the year and discretely managed to smuggle out some seeds in a napkin. Unfortunately my cleaning lady thought the folded up tissue I was keeping them in was rubbish, so into the bin went 10 or so tomato seeds from a 3 Michelin Star restaurant. I like to imagine that in a landfill somewhere, they are thriving, even if there’s nobody there to enjoy them. So no tomatoes this year, but plenty else to enjoy and tend to. In a world that is increasingly instant, there is so much to be learned from working on a garden 🙂
